If you run a home-based food business, you must get an FSSAI License. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India not only governs and monitors the food businesses but also ensures that the food products go through essential quality checks.
According to the Food Safety and Security act, 2006, almost every Food Business Operator (FBO) should obtain this Food License. If your food business is small or tiny, it should get successfully registered with FSSAI. Getting a license or registration is based on your annual turnover.
- Registration FORM A - Below 12 Lakhs
- State License FORM B - up to 12 – 20 Crore
- Central License FORM B – More than 20 Crore
- You must be successfully registered.
- If you are doing business in over one state, you can apply for one extra central license for your head office

What are the steps involved in getting FSSAI License for your home-based food business?
It involves a few procedures which are explained below:
- Fill out the application form
The first step is to complete your FSSAI application by giving all essential details regarding your food business
- Send your documents
It is advised to send the required documents through email, and the authority will make FSSAI Form B and Form A. You need to wait for two days for this process.
- Submit your documents
You can file the FSSAI application with essential declarations to your local FBO. Food License will take few working days.
- Issuing of FSSAI license
The authority will send the Food license through the mail. It will take roughly few days. You can keep both your FSSAI certificate and license with you forever.
What are the documents required to get an FSSAI license?
For Basic FSSAI License Registration:
- Completed and signed Form A
- 2 Photographs (Passport Size)
- PAN Card
- Possession Proof of the Premises
- Partnership Deed
- Incorporation Certificate or Articles of Association (AOA)
- List of processing food items
- Declaration form
- Authority letter
- Form IX: Nomination of individuals by the business Company along with Board Resolution

- Duly filled and signed Form B
- Plan of your processing unit
- List of proprietor/partners/directors with photo ID, address and contact information
- List and name of machinery and equipment
- Food category that is going to be manufactured

- Possession Proof of premises
- Partnership affidavit/deed of proprietorship
- NOC and License copy from the manufacturer
- Certificate Copy grabbed under the Multistate Coop Act 2002 or Coop Act 1861
- Plan or certificate of food safety management system
- Certificate or plan of Food safety management system
- Form IX
- Certificate from Tourism Ministry
- Supporting document for transportation and turnover proof
