Categories of Food License Registration:

Food License Registration is divided into Central License (provided by the central governments), State License (provided by the state governments), and Basic registration depending on the size and turnover of the business. 

Basic FSSAI Registration- Requirements

Every basic FSSAI Registration license requires FBOs to satisfy specific criteria. Only then the permit is granted. Some of the requirements of this category licenses are-  
  • Any self-manufacturer taking care of the sales himself
  • A turnover not exceeding Rs. 12 Lacs annually 
  • Petty cottage industries invested in the food business
  • Small-time retailers dealing with certain food products
  • A temporary stallholder
  • Any individual who is vested in distributing food to any religious gathering

FSSAI registration: Documents required-

  • Duly filled and signed
  • Identity proof and a photograph of the company
  • Proof of acquisition like a rental agreement or lease agreement
  • Documents copies of Partnership deed, Memorandum of Association Partnership Deed and Incorporation Certificate, and more.
  • Category and list of food products manufactured or sold in
  • Blueprint for Food safety management system 

Obtaining the FSSAI registration- The process in a nutshell

  • An application under Form A is needed to be submitted to the Swart officers of the food and safety department. 
  • Declaring the category of good that you will be dealing with
  • Write a challan to be deposited 
  • An acceptance/rejection intimation regarding the application in written gets delivered to the candidate within seven days
  • Visit and inspection of the company premises by food and health inspector
  • Regular visits by license consultant during normal business hours
  • At the event of acceptance, a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant will be granted
  • This number should be displayed at the shop at all times

Renewing the FSSAI registration

The validity of an FSSAI food license is between 1-5 years based on the nature of the business. Renewing the FSSAI license is equally important as getting one. If the license expires, then the FBO won’t be allowed to operate and will be penalized. The renewal should be submitted four months or 120 days before the date of expiry. Missing the time can lead to some severe consequence resulting in your license cancellation

  • Duly filled and signed form A and form B 
  • The FSSAI License Renewal period is approximately 60 days from the date of application 
  • Self-attested FSSAI License Renewal form along with a copy of self-declaration, required documents and license fee should be duly submitted
  • Id proof in the form of Aadhar card, driving license, Voter ID, or Passport should be provided along with the other documents. 
  • If for some reason the license is delayed, then a written confirmation regarding the same can be used to start the business till the license arrives
The entire process of verification and food quality inspection will happen by the food and License officer or consultants. This verification is the last step towards getting an FSSAI license. The confirmation usually occurs during the business hours to ensure transparency.
